If you’re wondering what song is playing in the new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, the answer is clear:

“Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty.

The track plays throughout the first official trailer released by Rockstar Games, instantly setting the tone for GTA 6’s return to Vice City and its modern, Florida-inspired setting.

🎵 GTA 6 trailer song details

  • Song: Love Is a Long Road

  • Artist: Tom Petty

  • Release year: 1989

  • Album: Full Moon Fever

Despite being over three decades old, the song surged in popularity again after the trailer dropped, re-entering streaming charts and sparking discussion well beyond the GTA community.

Moments like this — where games collide with wider culture — are exactly the kind of stories we track across Nomansplanet.

Why Rockstar chose this song

Rockstar’s trailer music choices are rarely accidental.

“Love Is a Long Road” captures:

  • freedom and restlessness

  • long journeys with consequences

  • sun-soaked optimism hiding darker undertones

All themes that align perfectly with GTA’s identity — and especially with what fans expect from GTA 6.

Will this song be in GTA 6 itself?

Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the in-game radio stations yet, but historically:

  • trailer songs often appear in the final game

  • especially when they fit the setting and tone

If “Love Is a Long Road” does make it in, it would likely sit on a classic rock or Americana-style station — a staple of the GTA soundtrack experience.
